Emma {Ballerina}

I have always loved photographing ballerinas. The poise, the energy, the beauty, the contrasts. And oh, brick and city. They just play so effortlessly against the youthful grace. Hooray for urban decay.

Emma is the daughter of a friend of mine who I have known since I was in 5th grade. She is an aspiring ballerina, who has spent time in NYC aka the Big Apple, auditioned for the Nutcracker (THE Radio City Nutcracker, because, is there another?) and happens to also be interested in photography. I’d like to think our time together might have been a bit of an inspiration. She certainly was for me. It’s kind of cool to see her tireless energy, her joie de vivre, and her willingness to run around this up and coming area in downtown Easton and be photographed around every corner.

In general I love contrasts in photography. Women wearing wedding dresses and prom gowns in atypical locations – against graffiti or ankle-deep in the ocean. The more unusual, the better. I sometimes wonder if this isn’t a theme in my life – contrasts. Metallica played by the symphony. Savory and sweet. Soft and Crunchy. So many good things happen with contrasts. Case in point below.
